Alright.. so it's already here. I haven't had a lot of time lately to post because of school and my son's therapies, but I thought i'd give a sneak peak at the start of my first chapter. You might have met him before, but i'm hoping to introduce you to a brand new Tanan Dawn! Enjoy!





( Sector's Child - Chapter One )

OK.. technically Nov. 6th, but I'm not counting that since it's only 45 minutes into the day. :P Anyway..

word count: 1400
-6935 where I wanted to be at this point (yes I do try to keep track of how many words a day I need to write to get to 50K in 30 days)

However, the past few days have been a bit hectic and Wed. is an important day for me in RL so i've been trying to prepare for that. I'm going to try to take a couple breaks tomorrow and get at least another 1700 words in tomorrow and then hopefully catch up the rest of the week. My mom is watching the kids this weekend for me so I should be able to get some catch up by then. I'm hoping I can get it done before though as that would give me the weekend to get ahead of myself :P

Best thing though is that i'm started now. I've had the opening of this book in mind for over a year now. It was how the whole idea came about really, so i'm excited. It was harder to write for me than I would have thought, but i'm pretty happy with the first scene so far.

Another thing I will probably do this weekend is put the story up on a webpage somewhere so my LJ, myspace, and email friends can all read it :P I'll link it once it's up, though i'm sure you'll all be too busy to read it just yet with nano yourselves. Except Sil and i've already told her I expect to see how many books she can write this month :P

I'm really liking the names I picked out, though I surprised myself with writing my main character's previous name in the beginning. She has 3 names in the course of her life, though I never really expected to use them. It was just something in my head... something maybe for flashbacks if I needed one. However, Kepi's name is currently Femi and she won't be renames until after her 'disgrace'. But I like the names. I usually just make up names of places and things like that an they all sound... well.. fantasy. So does this but the names I picked are egyptian so i'm forcing myself to come up with places that sound egyptian as well. It makes me think a little harder for them, but i'm enjoying the exercise so far.

So i'm off! 3 pages written, 1400 words.

Kath.. you just might recognize a few names on this one... was talking to a friend about some old stories and it made me nostalgic so I was reading a story that I wrote. The original workd and concept were created by a group of us. After we stopped writing I got with another woman and we started writing it again, but 25 years down the road. This is from that time. Thought I would share it...

Nano comes... in just a few days. Though I promised myself I would be more organized and have an actual plan this year, I have done nothing for it yet. So, since I have decided today is my 'slack from any chores I don't have to' day... plotting it is. And not for my rp stuff that I love so much. It's so much easier in some ways, to just Rp. No matter what I do, I can pop online, get on MSn or Skype, and someone will be there with ideas to help me out because it affects their character too. When I write alone of course, I don't have that. Even with the Interactive story I did with the girls, there was always someone to bounce ideas off of, even if I was just playing my own characters sometimes. In the end, it was my idea to create Alan and Taea and Tanan and the F'ed up relationships they had. It was my idea to create Rainy and her perfect-not perfect complex in my first attempts at Rping. I'm the one with the F'ed up AS who craves touch so much she finds it almost impossible to talk when someone is touching her and who falls in love with a man that is ultimately as f'ed up as she is. I did create those things... so I guess in my own way I do plit well enough on my own... I just like to have the others as back up sometimes (and for those times when I have a lack of total inspiration :P)

So.. here we go. Brainstorming.

Yes.. it's that time of year again. Nanowrimo is coming in November. I'm pretty excited about it this year. Honestly, I don't know if i'll be able to make it or not, but after finishing something up last year, i'm looking forward to giving it a try this year! of course, life has changed pretty drastically this year (if you've been reading my personal journal you already know all this ) but my son was diagnosed with autism at the same time my company went bankrupt. Which means that I am now a stay at home Mom who runs her tail off, taking her son to a special preschool, taking him to extra therapies (as many as I can get for him), keeping up with my daughter who just started kindergarten this year, and in general trying to find time to keep the house clean, have a little quality time for myself, my hubby, and my best friend. And a little RP time too, when the rest will leave me be :P

So that means I haven't done any writing lately outside the RP world and it's about time. Do I have something in mind? I have two somethings. I've had one idea that I was tossing around in my head last year about this time... something from my SG1 addiction really and a love for female assassins (can we say Taea anyone? :P ) The second is just something that came to me last night as I was lying in bed.

1) Fuedalistic, futuristic society where Overlords rule in spacious ships that roam the known galaxy. The story is told about a woman who was raised as the most prized possession of her Lord, his deadly assassin and bodyguard. The other Lords know about her and her kind, but not what they look like, nor do they know how her Lord was able to train them as he has, to complete loyalty and absolute obedience. he will not share his secret. As other Lords begin to fall to various rebellions within their own ranks and to the manipulation of others, he sends his favorite assassin into the pits to work with other slaves and find the depth of the rebellion in his own kingdom. The story revolves around her finding the rebellion and in the end, leading it. She will come to learn that she is a slave as they are (something she had never really understood in her life) and will have to fight her 'sisters' in order to defeat what she knows to be a flawed system with a perverse and cruel head.

2)Post-apocalyptic setting. It is the story of the Hangman... once known as the man who hung betrayers and criminals, he became more. He entertained the crowds with death, and entertained them before with jests. In time, death became more than that, and he began to travel to it's call, exacting revenge on those that deserved it. He is welcoming into homes as a folk singer, a mercenary gun when need be, and a man who can talk about places far off and unseen to most.

As you can tell.. the first idea is far more thought out. I don't intend either to be a love story but I do tend to put those things in whether I want them or not... so we'll see how it goes :P It will NOT revolve around it though, as my last Nano novel did. Without the love story there would have been no story there :P Here, if there is one it would be a side note.

What is my real goal this year? I wrote my first book last year, though the gods know I have written more than enough characters and words to write a few books over through my rps :P My first book was a simple one, with a point A to point B sort of plot, told from one character's POV. I'm hoping to branch out with this new book and make something more complicated and with more depth. We'll have to wait and see if i'm successful with it.

I've always wanted to write post apocalyptic. A lot of ideas I have are set in that sort of an era, though I have never yet read a post apocalyptic story (though I guess you could count Terry Brooks... but I have a hard time doing that :P He'll always be fantasy to me no matter where it was located :P)I like the idea of turning my current world upside down and making things dirtier and grittier. I've also become extremely fond of writers who invent their own curse words so i'll probably do that as well :P (I love goram... for example... and farkin' is right up there too. I have a tendency to think "Oh light." in my head quite often though I don't say it aloud. I even used to say Grok to my hubby though that stopped after a while too. :P)

And i've never really contemplated a futuristic story besides this one... well one other but it's more a screenplay idea than a book idea... and what futuristic/ far more advanced than us stories I know are from TV alone... star trek, firefly, and sg1 mostly so what I am using would be mostly what I want as well. Though I have fallen in love with Battlestar Galactica in the past few weeks after renting Season 1. I like the grit of it and it's something of what I had in mind in the mining pits where the assassin would be forced to go to find her rebellion.

Either way, I think there is a lot to be said for either... though I am leaning towards my number 1 just because i've had the idea in my head for so long. I can picture the first scene now... with her standing on the balcony of a luxury ship, dressed in sheer silks in bright colors, watching the moonlight as her Lord comes to her to speak of her next 'duty' to him. Yeah... that scene is already very alive in my head, even if I haven't committed it to page yet. It's the image that started the idea for me actually :P I have no idea where it came from, but it's there none the less.

Anyway... I expect to have more updates soon. I will have to make up my mind, and unlike last years 'throw out the words and hope they stick' sort of writing, i'm hoping to actually make some sort of an outline this year and see how that goes. I've always been an 'inspired' writer rather than a 'planned' writer so it should be interesting to see if the planning can help kick my inspiration into gear :P

So the 1st edit of my book is done! YEAH! Wasn't so sure i'd ever manage it, and even knowing that I need to go back and tweek some more.. I feel great about it! It's a simple story, but one I hope that interests people. I like the characters and it's very much character driven. Hopefully that's a plus :P Trying to think of markets and that sort of thing. Maybe doing another edit with that in mind.. maybe working up a 'romance' edit that would make it more sellable to a romance crowd but i'm not sure. Haven't thought about it too much yet.

Haven't seen this journal in a while :P So... what have I been up to? Well... i'm trying to edit Demon Blood and find a new name for it. Demon Blood seems.. I don't know. I just can't find a name for this damn book. I was always really good at naming my stories for Haven and Lustre (at least I thought I was :P) but I can't find anything that fits. Maybe I should have a big ole' name my book post... but that would mean people would have to read it first and that's not likely to happen. Anyway... hoping to finish my first edit and make it public domain soon :P Should be interesting. it's the first time i've finished a novel, so first time editing. I can already see that there are things I need to go back and fix more, but I need to get through the end before going back again :P

After that i'm on to a new book. I want to write something fantasy-futuristic. Overlord/feudal system where the main character is an assassin for the main bad ass overlord. She gets sent on a mission that will force her to live among slaves and in doing so will come to realize she is one (yep... she wasn't really aware of that before.) I think it could be interesting.. fall of the system and she'll end up having a fairly nice battle scene with the other people she's trained.

I might try to work on editing together some short stories as well, things I haven't touched in years. Put together a new writing site and put it up for people to see. I'm passing fond of word press now that I have my DM writing on it and it was nice and easy. As long as I remember not to write code in the wrong place :P

Anyway... that's all for now. Hopefully i'll be able to put a link up for the 2nd draft sometime this week.

I haven't been doing anything lately so nothing much to post here I guess :P I did manage to finish my Novel for Nano! YEAH! I was sick at the end and I think the ending was kinda choppy because I was on meds and not thinking too clearly.. but I plan on fixing that. I wasn't allowing myself to read the story until January at least to give myself some time away from the story, to forget what I knew and to allow myself a fresh read. I'll probably start reading it next week.

On other news.. no other writing right now. Mostly just been playing with my RPs and having fun with that. I was writing the Ace and Fait story and realized really I was just missing two characters and that it wasn't enough of an idea to keep me going. I loved the characters and the interaction, but until I have the time to come up with something interesting, i'm just putting it aside. I didn't have any plot for it when I started, just a love of them.. have to change that before I get going any further.

Not sure what to do now, but something will come up i'm sure. It always does :P

So I updated my webpage today! I'm up to 16,000 words on Demonblood, but I feel like I need be way further along then that. I go some days where I write like crazy and others were I barely type at all. Got to push past that and keep going.

Something nice in my email today though. An old RP friend sent me this:

I need my fix…"

:P I hadn't updated my website yet so she hadn't seen anything i'd done in a while... made me feel all snuggly though to have a friend who was reminding me to get on with it :P

Ah.. my new home. Just needs a little paint, some airing out... ya. I'm liking it already. So what is this place? It's my haven. A place for me to write all the stupid things that jumble up in my head. Not the day to day happenings or the mind altering life experiences (if you are here and reading this you already know where to find that out about me :P). This is for the silly things that I have to stop and jot down on napkins because i'm at a restaurant and someone dabs spaghetti sauce off their chin and I can't help but think it would be funny if it were blood and this were a vampire restaurant. Ya, that sort of thing. So welcome, pull up a chair, grab a glass of...whatever, and comment all you want, we'll make more.
